GSPR to Connect NH-8, MG Road and Faridabad Road

GSPR to Connect NH-8, MG Road and Faridabad Road

With an aim to share the burden of busy Delhi-Gurugram Expressway, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has subjected its advice for the alignment of Phase 1 of the 40-km-long Greater Southern Peripheral Road (GSPR), also named as Gurugram-Manesar Expressway. Phase 1 of the GSPR will connect NH8, MG Road and Faridabad road. The alignment has been submitted to GMDA for its approval. The construction of this road will provide a ring road to the city from the eastern side by connecting the Delhi- Gurugram Expressway on NH-48 with IMT Manesar.

The alignment of phase 1 will start from NH-8 near Dhanchiri Camp and will cross east along the boundary wall of Rajokri Air Force station, and then it will turn right towards south to connect Mehrauli Gurugram (MG) Road. According to NHAI, “In its first 700m, the road will be passing through Dhanchiri Camp in Dundahera village to Rajokri in Delhi, after which it will enter Nathupur village in Gurugram, before crossing MG road and traversing through the Aravalies to end at Faridabad road near the silver Oaks intersection. The arrangement will also have an interchange with the proposed 3km extension of Delhi’s Nelson Mandela Marg which will connect with GSPR at Rangpuri bypass.”

NHAI had conducted the detailed conference with GMDA officials while preparing the alignment and it has been agreed in principle. “GMDA had observed that at the location where the road enters Haryana after crossing Rajokri, it passes through privately owned land parcels, whose owner are already locked in the dispute with the Haryana forest department. GMDA has recommended the alignment be shifted further to the east along the Delhi-Haryana border, so that maximum land used in government-owned and private land utilization is minimized,” said a senior NHAI official.

This expressway, which is eventually expected to share the burden of Delhi-Gurugram Expressway, will have significant importance because of its route. This will help commuters traveling from Dhaula Kuan and IGI airport can now opt for this new expressway to reach Manesar easily from Gurugram. It will reduce the traffic congestion on a section of NH-8 in Gurugram.

It is expected to benefit those industrialists, who have been complaining of poor connectivity between Manesar and Gurugram for long. Also, people wanting to go to Mehrauli on MG Road or Sohna Road can also take this new route for hassle-free driving.

This new road will complement the Dwarka Expressway to form a complete circle similar to Delhi’s Outer Ring Road. The completion of both projects will not only reduce the traffic pressure of Delhi-Gurugram Expressway but also open the option of investing in the real estate sector. As it will provide a continuous connectivity across major destinations in the national capital region, the nearby areas have grabbed the eyeballs of leading developers.
