Pune, a bustling city of Maharashtra, has long struggled with traffic congestion and limited public transportation options. However, a transformative solution was launched in 2022 in the form of the Pune Metro.

The Pune Metro intends to revolutionize the way residents and visitors commute within the city by offering efficient, reliable, and eco-friendly transportation. Let’s dive into this blog to discover some of the important features, map, and other important information about the Pune metro rail.

Pune Metro: Key Features

The concept of Pune Metro was released in 2009, while the foundation was laid in December 2016.

  • The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MahaMetro) included both elevated and underground alternatives in the two partially operational corridors - Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to Swargate and Vanaz to Ramwadi, at an estimated cost of about Rs 11,400 crore.

  • The coaches of the Pune Metro rail project are made in India as a part of the Union government’s "Make in India Policy".

  • The compartments of this metro are made with aluminum metal, which will require less maintenance and energy.

  • The Pune metro aims to install around 11.20 MWp of solar panels on the rooftops of elevated stations. Doing so will lead to savings of approximately Rs 20 crore per year and prevent the 25000 tons of carbon dioxide from being released.

Pune Metro: Fare

  • The minimum Pune metro ticket cost for PMC Station to Phugewadi is Rs 10, and the maximum is Rs 20.

  • The minimum fare for Vanaz to Garware College Station will be Rs 10, while the maximum is Rs 20.

  • The proper fare system, tariffs, and restrictions for Metro Line III are not yet available.
