The Delhi Mumbai Expressway has been making headlines ever since the opening of its initial Delhi-Dausa-Lalsot section. This expressway is a flagship initiative of the Government of India that will link the country's two most important cities in terms of economic activity and commerce - New Delhi and Mumbai. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is responsible for the construction and maintenance of this longest expressway in India. 

The section of the Delhi Mumbai Expressway between Sohna and Dausa was officially opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 12th, 2023. The stretch has been open to the public since February 14, 2023. 

The longest expressway in India is anticipated to be completed by June 2024, reducing the travel time between Delhi and Mumbai from 24 to 12 hours.

Delhi Mumbai Expressway Route Map

The proposed alternative Greenfield, 8-lane expressway, with a speed limit of 120 km/h, will cut travel time between the two major cities in half from 24 hours.. The 1350-km long Delhi-Mumbai Expressway will pass through five states and consume more than 15,000 hectares of land. 

The journey via the Delhi to Mumbai expressway will start from the Delhi Noida Direct(DND) Flyway, pass through Sohna(Gurgaon) and continue on through Jaipur and Sawai Madhopur, both located in Rajasthan. After that, the route travels through Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh, and Vadodara in Gujarat, before reaching Mumbai, Maharashtra. 

The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway map has been broken up into four segments, each of which covers a different state. The alignment for these segments is detailed below.

• Section 1: DND-Faridabad-KMP Route 

• Section 2: Sohna–KMP–Vadodara Route

• Section 3: Vadodara–Virar Route

• Section 4: Virar–JNPT Route

Delhi-Mumbai Expressway: Overview

Also known as Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor, the many unique features of the longest expressway in India are as follows: 

• At approximately 93 locations along the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, travellers will have access to a wide variety of services, including hotels, automated teller machines, food courts, single-brand fast food restaurants, retail shops, gas stations, and charging stations for electric vehicles. 

• The Mumbai to Delhi expressway will be the first of its kind to feature fully-equipped trauma centres and helipads every 100 kilometres. 

• Interestingly, the longest expressway in India will have environmentally friendly features. Around 20 million trees are going to be planted along the expressway. The rainwater harvesting system will be used to water the trees every 500 metres using a drip irrigation system. 

The reduction of carbon dioxide emissions by about 850 million tonnes is estimated by planting trees along the expressway. Because of the project's anticipated impact on traffic flow, a fuel savings of about 32 litres is expected as a direct result of its implementation. The roadside lights along the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway route can be powered in part by solar energy and in part by connection to state grids. 

• There are also plans to convert a section of the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway into an electric expressway. Buses and trucks can travel at speeds of up to 120 km/h on this expressway. As heavy vehicles use electricity as a substitute for diesel as fuel, logistics costs will be reduced by roughly 70%, thanks to the expressway's increased speed and reduced congestion. 

• There will be 8 lanes total on the Delhi to Mumbai expressway map, with four of them reserved for electric vehicles. In addition, the toll booths will be installed within the slip lanes, and a 1.5-meter-high security barrier will be constructed along both sides of the motorway road.

• 5 natural wildlife crossings will be located along the eight-lane wide Mumbai to Delhi expressway. These parks and reserves include Mukundara National Park, Ranthambore National Park, and Sariska Tiger Reserve. 

Tunnels in Mukundara National Park and the Matheran Ecologically Sensitive Zone would be the first 8-lane broad tunnels in India and a major tourist draw for the country's flora and fauna. 

The wildlife corridor will remain undisturbed and unaffected by the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway’s route construction thanks to the first animal overpass/over bridge in the country, which will be built as part of the longest expressway in India between Delhi and Mumbai.

• The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is facilitating the installation of optic fibre cable networks along the longest expressway in India. As such, it fits into the larger NBM (National Broadband Mission) initiative currently underway in India. Communications can be improved with the help of optic fibre cable networks.

Delhi-Mumbai Expressway Toll Rates

The Bharatmala Pariyojana funded construction of the longest expressway in India, which is slated to feature an automated toll collection system at entry and exit gates every 50 kilometres. 

The expressway's toll collection system will log entry time and location and deduct the appropriate amount from the Fastag account when you leave the highway.

The Delhi–Mumbai Expressway, which will be India’s longest expressway, will feature more than ninety exits.  It will also be the first in India to feature an electric lane, which is a big plus. Charges for the final section of the Mumbai to Delhi expressway will be made public soon.

Longest Expressway In India: Distance and Travel

The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway will not only  shorten the time to 12 hours to reach Mumbai from Delhi. The expressway is also slated to shorten the time to reach from Delhi to Jaipur. 

This longest expressway in India in its 1350 km stretch will be connecting Jaipur, Kota, Udaipur, Chittorgarh, Ujjain, Indore, Vadodara, Surat, and Ahmedabad.

The Delhi to Mumbai Expressway route will also feature a heliport for air ambulance evacuations and a number of gas stations, restaurants, and food courts. In addition, the expressway will reduce yearly fuel consumption by over 300 million gallons. The expressway will link some other cities along the way including Ratlam, Mandsaur,  Jhabua, Dausa, Tonk, Bundi, Kota, Bharatpur, and Alwar. 

Investing in Property Along the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway

• The real estate market is forecast to expand significantly after the completion of Mumbai to Delhi expressway. This is due to the fact that numerous housing projects, commercial properties, and other types of infrastructural developments are expected to take place along the expressway route.  

• When completed, the longest expressway in India will be among the largest expressway construction projects in India. Townships, business parks, logistics parks, and other similar developments will benefit from the project's ability to attract investment in a structured manner. 

• Increased economic activity is also likely to benefit the smaller communities located along the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway map route near the cities of Ahmedabad, Surat, and Vadodara.

• A city's real estate market is highly sensitive to its level of accessibility and the quality of its physical and social infrastructure. Commercial and residential construction in the area is also a driving force. After the completion of the Delhi to Mumbai Expressway, Sohna(Haryana), has the potential to become a new real estate hub. Experts in the real estate market agree that Sohna boasts a prime location and easy access to the region's other major urban hubs. 

• The Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) states that Sohna is already home to between six and seven commercial developments, as well as ten affordable group housing projects, nineteen group-housing projects, and fifteen projects under the Deen Dayal Awas Yojana. 

• There has been a sixty percent to seventy percent increase in property value over the past year especially around the elevated road network between Gurugram and Sohna, as well as the area around the Sohna-Dausa segment of the longest expressway in India. 

• There will likely be a 30–40% increase in the cost of land immediately adjacent to the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), Navi Mumbai.
