The Delhi Mumbai Expressway has been making headlines ever since the opening of its initial Delhi-Dausa-Lalsot section. This expressway is a flagship initiative of the Government of India that will link the country's two most important cities in terms of economic activity and commerce - New Delhi and Mumbai. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is responsible for the construction and maintenance of this longest expressway in India.
The section of the Delhi Mumbai Expressway between Sohna and Dausa was officially opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 12th, 2023. The stretch has been open to the public since February 14, 2023.
The longest expressway in India is anticipated to be completed by June 2024, reducing the travel time between Delhi and Mumbai from 24 to 12 hours.

Delhi Mumbai Expressway Route Map
The proposed alternative Greenfield, 8-lane expressway, with a speed limit of 120 km/h, will cut travel time between the two major cities in half from 24 hours.. The 1350-km long Delhi-Mumbai Expressway will pass through five states and consume more than 15,000 hectares of land.
The journey via the Delhi to Mumbai expressway will start from the Delhi Noida Direct(DND) Flyway, pass through Sohna(Gurgaon) and continue on through Jaipur and Sawai Madhopur, both located in Rajasthan. After that, the route travels through Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh, and Vadodara in Gujarat, before reaching Mumbai, Maharashtra.

The reduction of carbon dioxide emissions by about 850 million tonnes is estimated by planting trees along the expressway. Because of the project's anticipated impact on traffic flow, a fuel savings of about 32 litres is expected as a direct result of its implementation. The roadside lights along the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway route can be powered in part by solar energy and in part by connection to state grids.
- There are also plans to convert a section of the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway into an electric expressway. Buses and trucks can travel at speeds of up to 120 km/h on this expressway. As heavy vehicles use electricity as a substitute for diesel as fuel, logistics costs will be reduced by roughly 70%, thanks to the expressway's increased speed and reduced congestion.
- There will be 8 lanes total on the Delhi to Mumbai expressway map, with four of them reserved for electric vehicles. In addition, the toll booths will be installed within the slip lanes, and a 1.5-meter-high security barrier will be constructed along both sides of the motorway road.
- 5 natural wildlife crossings will be located along the eight-lane wide Mumbai to Delhi expressway. These parks and reserves include Mukundara National Park, Ranthambore National Park, and Sariska Tiger Reserve.
Tunnels in Mukundara National Park and the Matheran Ecologically Sensitive Zone would be the first 8-lane broad tunnels in India and a major tourist draw for the country's flora and fauna.
The wildlife corridor will remain undisturbed and unaffected by the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway’s route construction thanks to the first animal overpass/over bridge in the country, which will be built as part of the longest expressway in India between Delhi and Mumbai.
- The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is facilitating the installation of optic fibre cable networks along the longest expressway in India.
