With the motive of improving infrastructure and connectivity in Maharashtra, Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister of the state, Devendra Fadnavis, announced a new 760-km Nagpur-Goa expressway connecting Nagpur and Sindhudurg bordering Goa, in March 2023. The expressway has been named the Shaktipeeth Expressway as it is set to connect three Shakti-Peethas—Mahalakshmi, Tuljabhavani, and Patradevi.

This longest expressway in Maharashtra is expected to become a great addition to the existing transportation infrastructure, provide a much-needed boost to the state's economy and help create new job opportunities.The expressway will enable easier access for residents and travellers alike. The Goa Nagpur Expressway is expected to reduce the travel time from 21 hours to approximately 8 hours.  

The Nagpur-Goa Expressway will link regions of Vidarbha, Marathwada, and Western Maharashtra that are not served by the Nagpur Mumbai Highway.

How Will The Nagpur Goa Expressway Benefit Citizens?

The Shaktipeeth Expressway will offer various benefits, like:

• Better Commerce: The Shaktipeeth Expressway will connect Nagpur and Goa, meaning more opportunities for trading between the cities. 

• Boost in Religious Tourism: The Nagpur Goa Expressway will boost religious tourism in Vidarbha, Marathwada, Western Maharashtra, and Goa. 

• Decreased Travel Time: The travel time will be decreased from 21 hours to 7-8 hours approximately. When the Nagpur Goa Expressway becomes operational, it will enable faster travel time between Goa and Nagpur by bypassing cities like Mumbai and Pune.

• Establishment of the Green Corridor Project: The state government has taken the initiative to construct the Green Corridor Project, in which thousands of trees and shrubs will be planted along the expressway. 

• Increase in Employment Opportunities: Many agriculture-based and related industries will be established to boost economic growth. These establishments will result in plenty of job opportunities.

The estimated cost of the Shaktipeeth Expressway is approximately Rs 75,000 crore.

Three Shakti Peethas - Mahalakshmi, Tuljabhavani, and Patradevi, will be connected on the Nagpur-Goa Expressway. 

Additional places of worship along the Shaktipeeth Expressway include Renuka Mata, Sevagram Ashram, Aundha Nagnath, Nanded Gurudwara, Siddeshwar, Parli-Vaijnath, Pandharpur, Tuljabhavani, Mahalakshmi, and Patradevi.

When completed, the Nagpur-Goa expressway (currently under construction) will provide smoother and faster connectivity between the two cities. Also, the expressway will increase property prices in Nagpur and Goa.
