7 Reasons to give houseplants another chance

7 Reasons to give houseplants another chance

Indoor plants not only purify the surrounding air but also enhance the decor of your house. In fact, you will be amazed by the number of benefits that a houseplant can bring to your life.

Save Your Houseplants Today

Look up the plant or problem before you shower the plant with fertilizer or an inordinate amount of water. You might even find that the solution is as easy as moving the plant to a brighter room or putting it in a pot that has drainage holes. Next, inspect the potting mix. If it’s tangled with roots or smells bad when it’s watered, it’s time to report with fresh potting mix.

Make Your Houseplants Look Good Again

Dusty leaves are more than just ugly; they’re a potential killer because they block out sunlight and effectively hide tiny pests like spider mites. Dust the plant’s leaves, undersides and all, with a damp rag. If you see any pests such as cotton-like mealybugs or hard barnacle-ish things called scale insects, remove them by hand or with a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol.

Transform With a New Planter

Just because you have a flowerpot doesn’t mean you have to use it. A houseplant should never look like an afterthought, so use exciting planters that highlight your plant’s features and/or tie in seamlessly with your décor

Start Fresh With the Right Plant

There is nothing wrong with ditching your long-suffering houseplant and starting fresh with a new one. Your houseplant should be a source of happiness or pride, and there’s no point in stressing out over a one-sided relationship. Move on.

Start a Collection

It’s easy to start a collection of so-called ‘ant plants’ that have developed cavities in their trunks, stems, and leaves to house ants; bromeliads that trap water in their leaves like a cup; and even ‘window plants’ that have developed transparent, succulent leaves as an adaptation to their rocky South African habitat.

Plant to Match Your Palette

If you thought houseplants only came in dark green, think again! With a rainbow of foliage colors at your disposal, you’re sure to find the right houseplant to make an impression

You’re Not the Only Cactus-Killer

It’s easy to buy plants that die in a matter of days because they were over watered at the garden center, and everyone has accidentally watered succulents that are only supposed to be watered once or twice in winter. Whoops! Don’t worry about it. The moral of the story is that if you kill a houseplant, it doesn’t mean that you have a black thumb or are a bad gardener. Lose the guilt and start over
