The NHAI has proposed a six-lane access-controlled highway connecting two cities in Maharashtra. Under the Bharatmala Project, the Pune Sambhaji Nagar Expressway, also known as the Pune Aurangabad Expressway, will be built. The expressway will be integrated with the 701 km Mumbai Nagpur Expressway. In the future, the expressway will also connect to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, which will reduce the travel time between Pune and Aurangabad from 4-5 hours to just 2 hours.

Pune Aurangabad Expressway: Key Features

The construction of the Pune-Aurangabad Expressway started in 2001 as a part of the MSRDC project. Launching this expressway aims to diminish travel time and enhance connectivity between the two major cities of Maharashtra, i.e., Pune and Aurangabad.
The 225 km long, six-lane expressway will be constructed to ensure smooth travel for travellers. It will be fully equipped with amenities like service lanes, rest areas, petrol stations, and proper signage.
The citizens who are affected by the land acquisition will be given compensation.
The highway will allow travellers to drive vehicles at 120-140 km/ hr.
Toll plazas will be incorporated at various intervals along the route. The funds collected will be used to upkeep and maintain the expressway.
The Maharashtra government and Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation will continue to work to improve the expressway's infrastructure. In the future, they will work more on advanced safety features and technologies and add more lanes.
