The construction of the residential building where the sleeping accommodation is provided for normal residential purposes with or without kitchen facilities except any building is classified under Group C.

The staircase and the fire escape staircase area should be continuous from the ground floor to the terrace floor.
Types of residential buildings
The National Building Code of India clearly states that residential buildings are those buildings that are equipped with sleeping accommodation with or without kitchen and dining facilities for people. They are further classified into the following 5 categories-
National Building Code guidelines for kitchen
The kitchen in the residential building must have a provision for washing utensils with a good drainage system.
The kitchen floor should be waterproof.
The kitchen is not allowed to open into the shaft
No use of chutes allowed above 15 metres.
The kitchen should get open in front of the interior and exterior open space and is not allowed to be less than 1 sq metres.
National Building Code guidelines for bathrooms
One wall of the bathroom should open to the open air.
The ventilation window or window space should measure up to 0.37 sq metres.
The bathroom should be above another bathroom or the terrace place but not allowed to be over another room.
The seats should be made of non-absorbent material
Impervious bathroom floors but sloping towards the drain should not be towards any other room or balcony spaces.
Bathrooms should be provided with flush cisterns.
But if the height of the toilets is above 2.2 metres, it will be counted in the Floor Area Ratio.
