The historical city of Patna, home to world-famous astronomers and scholars like Aryabhata and Chanakya, is all set to experience a change in its infrastructure landscape with the Patna metro project. Phase 1 of the metro network promises to redefine urban mobility in the city by offering a reliable, efficient, and eco-friendly mode of transportation. This extensive metro network, featuring state-of-the-art technology and modern design, will ease congestion and connect distant corners of the city.

Patna, the capital city of Bihar, is the 5th fastest-growing city in India, and the Patna metro is all set to accelerate the pace of its economic growth and development. Phase 1 of the Patna metro project is in progress, and in this blog, we will throw some light on phase 1 of the metro project.


Patna Metro Overview

Patna Metro is the first metro project in the state of Bihar. The foundation stone of the Patna metro project was laid by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 17 February 2019. The Patna Metro project is under-construction and is expected to be completed by 2025. It is constructed under a Public Private Partnership model at an estimated cost of ₹13,365.77 crore.

The Patna Metro project is owned and operated by state-run Patna Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is responsible for the Patna metro construction work. The Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) is partly financing this project.

The first phase of the Patna Metro project consists of two lines or corridors, namely the East-West Line, or Corridor 1, and the North-South Line or Corridor 2.

Patna Metro Project New Updates

  • Patna Metro Rail Corporation has adopted an advanced communication-based train control (CBTC) system, a state-of-the-art signaling system, for its stations and depots.

  • Patna Metro Rail Corporation has planned two interchange stations to make the commute easy and comfortable. One interchange station is Patna Junction, which will be underground. Khemni Chak is another interchange station that will be an elevated station. Both of these interchange stations will be connected to bus and railway terminals.

  • Akashvani metro station on corridor 2 of the Patna metro project will have a Subway facility.

Patna Metro Route

The first phase of the Patna metro, which consists of Corridor 1 and Corridor 2, will be 32.50 km long with 26 stations. As per the Patna Metro Map, 16.86 km long corridor 1 will run between Danapur and Khemnichak stations.

Corridor 2 of the Patna metro route runs from Patna Junction to New ISBT. This north-south line, or Line 2, will be 14 km long. Keep reading to know the stations on the east-west and north-south lines.

PATNA METRO

Phase 1 of the Patna metro, an urban Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS), is currently under construction and is expected to be open to the public by 2025. The Patna metro map of Phase 1 is shared below.


1. East-West Line of Patna Metro Route

Corridor 1 of the Patna Metro Phase 1 will start from Danapur Cantonment and end at Khemni Chak.

The highlighting features of this east-west line of the Patna metro route are:

  • 16.86 km long Corridor 1 will have 14 stations. 

  • The east-west line has both underground and elevated stations.

  • The elevated route on this Patna metro corridor will be 9.36 km long.

  • The underground route on the east-west line of the Patna metro project will be 7.5 km long.

2. Stations on The East-West Line of Patna Metro Route

The following 14 stations are part of Corridor 1 of the Patna metro map. 

  • Danapur Cantonment

  • Saguna More

  • RPS More

  • Patliputra 

  • Rukanpura

  • Raja Bazar

  • Patna Zoo 

  • Vikas Bhawan 

  • Vidyut Bhawan

  • Patna Junction

  • Mithapur

  • Ramkrishna Nagar

  • Jaganpur

  • Khemni Chak

Patna Junction Station will be an interchanging station.


3. North-South Line of Patna Metro Route

Corridor 2 of the Patna Metro Phase 1 will start from Patna Junction Railway Station and end at New ISBT.

The highlighting features of this north-south line of the Patna metro route are:

  • The 14.06 km long corridor 2 route map of the Patna metro will have 12 stations. 

  • Corridor 2 of the Patna Metro Project Line has elevated and underground stations.

  • The elevated route of this line is 6 km long.

  • The underground route of the north-south line is 8 km long.

4. Stations on The North-South Line of Patna Metro Route

The route map of Patna metro on corridor 2 covers the following 12 stations: 

  • Patna Junction

  • Akashvani 

  • Gandhi Maidan

  • PMCH

  • Patna University

  • Moin Ul Haq Stadium

  • Rajendra Nagar

  • Malahi Pakri

  • Khemni Chak

  • Bhoothnath

  • Zero Mile

  • New ISBT

Patna Junction and Khemni Chak will be interchange stations.

Patna Metro Fare

Currently, there is no official announcement on ticket types, fare structure, or timings for the Patna metro route.
